Jurnal Biologi Papua is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Cenderawasih, in collaboration with the Indonesian Biology Association (Perhimpunan Biologi Indonesia, PBI), Papua Chapter.

Jurnal Biologi Papua is committed to maintaining high standards of integrity, transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct throughout the scholarly publication process. The journal promotes responsible research practices and the dissemination of reliable scientific knowledge in biology and related disciplines.

This publication ethics statement is informed by the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and internationally recognized standards of scholarly publishing.

All parties involved in the publication process, including editors, reviewers, authors, and the publisher, are expected to understand and comply with the ethical responsibilities outlined below.

2. Responsibilities of Editors

2.1 Editorial Decisions

The Editor-in-Chief and editorial team are responsible for evaluating submitted manuscripts and making publication decisions based on scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal's scope, and contributions to the advancement of biological sciences.

Editorial decisions must be made independently and objectively, without discrimination based on an author's nationality, ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs, institutional affiliation, or political views.

The editorial team must ensure that manuscripts are processed fairly, consistently, and within a reasonable timeframe.

2.2 Confidentiality

Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and all related editorial information.

Information concerning a manuscript must not be disclosed to individuals other than the corresponding author, assigned reviewers, relevant editorial staff, and the publisher when necessary for the editorial process.

2.3 Conflicts of Interest

Editors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence their editorial judgment.

Editors must not participate in editorial decisions concerning manuscripts in which they have personal, professional, financial, or institutional conflicts of interest.

Such manuscripts must be assigned to an independent editor.

2.4 Research Integrity

Editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.

When credible concerns regarding plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, unethical research, or other forms of misconduct arise, editors must conduct an appropriate assessment and take necessary corrective action.

Editorial actions may include requesting clarification, rejecting a manuscript, issuing a correction, publishing an expression of concern, or retracting an article when justified.

Peer reviewers play an essential role in maintaining the scientific quality and credibility of Jurnal Biologi Papua.

Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, evidence-based, and academically justified evaluations of submitted manuscripts.

Reviewer recommendations should address the manuscript's scientific originality, research methodology, data interpretation, presentation, and relevance to the journal's scope.

3.2 Expertise and Timeliness

Reviewers should accept review invitations only when the manuscript falls within their area of expertise and they can reasonably complete the review within the agreed timeframe.

Reviewers who lack the necessary expertise or are unable to complete the review promptly must inform the editor.

3.3 Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.

Reviewers must not disclose, reproduce, distribute, or discuss unpublished manuscript content without authorization from the editor.

Information obtained during peer review must not be used for personal advantage, professional competition, or the benefit of other individuals or organizations.

3.4 Objectivity and Professional Conduct

Reviews must be conducted impartially, respectfully, and constructively.

Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should provide clear explanations and scientific justification for their assessments.

Reviewers should identify relevant published research that has not been appropriately acknowledged when such references are essential to evaluating the manuscript.

3.5 Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must disclose potential conflicts of interest arising from financial, institutional, collaborative, personal, or competitive relationships with the authors or their research.

Reviewers with significant conflicts of interest must decline the review invitation or consult the editor before proceeding.

4. Responsibilities of Authors

4.1 Originality and Scientific Integrity

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts represent original scholarly work and have not been published previously or submitted simultaneously to another journal.

Research findings must be presented accurately, honestly, and transparently.

Fabrication, falsification, inappropriate data manipulation, plagiarism, and misleading presentation of research results are unacceptable.

4.2 Research Reporting Standards

Authors must provide sufficient information about research objectives, methodologies, data collection, analysis, and interpretation to allow readers to assess the validity and reliability of the findings.

Where relevant, authors should provide supporting data or additional methodological information upon reasonable request from the editorial team, subject to ethical, legal, and confidentiality requirements.

4.3 Authorship and Contributions

Authorship must accurately reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript preparation.

All listed authors must have made meaningful contributions to the work, approved the submitted manuscript, and agreed to take responsibility for their respective contributions and the integrity of the publication.

Individuals who contributed to the research but do not qualify for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged.

Changes to authorship after submission require a clear explanation and agreement from all affected authors, subject to editorial approval.

4.4 Plagiarism and Proper Citation

Authors must appropriately acknowledge all sources, ideas, data, methods, and previously published materials used in their manuscripts.

Plagiarism, including unattributed copying, inappropriate paraphrasing, and substantial reuse of previously published work without appropriate disclosure, is prohibited.

Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of their references.

4.5 Multiple and Redundant Publication

Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to multiple journals.

Substantial duplication of previously published research without appropriate disclosure, citation, permission, or scientific justification is considered unethical publication practice.

Any related manuscripts, preprints, or overlapping publications should be disclosed to the editorial team when relevant.

4.6 Disclosure of Funding and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose financial support, research grants, sponsorships, and other funding sources associated with the study.
